Former Oregon CB DJ James announces transfer to Auburn

Former Oregon Ducks starting cornerback DJ James announced on Twitter Sunday afternoon that he is transferring to Auburn to join the Tigers.

James, who is from Mobile, Alabama, included the phrase “I’m home” in his twitter announcement, heading back to his home state after three years in an Oregon uniform.

James will have two years of eligibility remaining at Auburn, and he’s coming off a strong 2021 campaign for the Ducks.

While the season got off to a rough start, as James and fellow defensive back Jamal Hill were arrested before the season on charges related to an airsoft gun, the majority of charges were eventually dropped.

So James was able to return early in the year, and alongside Verone McKinley and Mykael Wright he helped form an outstanding secondary in Eugene.

James finished the 2021 season with a career-high in solo tackles (34) assisted tackles (12) and passes defended (four).

Losing James hurts for new coach Dan Lanning, who already lost both Wright and McKinley to the NFL.

Lanning did bring in transfer Christian Gonzalez, a former four-star cornerback from Colorado, but there is still work to be done in the secondary before next September.
