Former OSU QB Dwayne Haskins had ketamine in system before death

Former Ohio State football quarterback and former Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Dwayne Haskins had ketamine in his system and “drank heavily” before his April 9th death in Florida, according to WPXI-TV.

WHIO-TV’s sister station in Pittsburgh, WPXI-TV, said the autopsy reported that was released on Monday said Haskins “drank heavily” and ingested ketamine in the hours before he was hit by a dump truck and killed in Interstate 595. Officials said he died from multiple blunt force trauma and the coroner ruled his death accidental.

WPXI-TV reported that a Florida Highway Patrol spokesperson reportedly confirmed Haskins was walking along the highway when he was hit attempting to cross the road with oncoming traffic.  Investigators said his car ran out of gas and he was walking to find a gas station.

According to the incident report, that WPXI-TV obtained, it said Haskins may have also been hit or run over by an SUV that swerved to avoid hitting him.

WPXI-TV obtained an audio recording that Haskins’ wife made to 911. During the call, Kalabrya told dispatchers that her husband had to walk to get gas but then she lost touch with him.

A woman was in the car with Haskins at the time of the incident and stayed in the car until troopers with the Florida State Patrol arrived, according to WPXI-TV. Officials did not indicate the nature of their relationship.

According to WPXI-TV, an official with the Steelers told investigators that Haskins had been training with the team the day before the accident and went to dinner. That official then said after dinner, Haskins went to a club with his friend or cousin where he “drank heavily,” got into a fight with the friend or cousin and then left.

The toxicology report from the autopsy said Haskins’ blook alcohol level was 0.24, according to WPXI-TV. The report also indicated Haskins had ketamine and norketamine in his system when he died.

The Florida Highway Patrol continues to investigate the deadly crash.
