Former PeaceHealth doctors open new cancer treatment center, expand services

A team of doctors left PeaceHealth St. Joseph Cancer Center after over 25 years to form North Cascade Cancer Center in April 2022 and have now welcomed a new doctor onto their staff to expand the types of treatments offered.

The cancer center offers radiation oncology services, such as radiotherapy, radiosurgery and treatments for organ cancers, skin cancers and breast cancers, but opened its new medical oncology clinic Aug. 28 through a partnership with Bellingham Radiation Oncology.

The center’s medical oncology services include chemotherapy, immunotherapy and targeted therapy based on individualized cancer genetics through its newest doctor, Dr. Dong Xiang, a medical oncologist, according to an email from Michael Taylor, MD, FACRO of North Cascade Cancer Center.

The cancer center’s current team of four doctors strives to see new and returning patients as soon as possible for both medical oncology and radiation oncology services.

“Our commitment to short consult wait times is a clear differentiator. Our new facility, like our staff, is warm and inviting. We carefully chose our staff so that each patient enjoys professional, empathetic, kind, competent care. Our physicians deliver care reflecting the latest evidence based approaches tempered with years of extensive experience,” Taylor wrote.

The cancer center also strives to keep costs lower than other hospital-based cancer centers and treatments.

“Cascade Cancer Center is a private freestanding center which means costs to patients and insurers is significantly lower than hospital based facilities while benefiting from the flexibility to assure fantastic staff, equipment, and patient support. Our referring surgeons and primary care physicians strongly supported our centers mission and development based on the trust built from years of working closely together and the clear community need,” Taylor wrote.

New patients can have their physician make a referral to the office, or patients can even self-refer themselves by calling 360-370-2873 or faxing 360-818-2873. Appointments can also be requested online.

The North Cascade Cancer Center is at 381 West Horton Road in Bellingham.
