Former Pitt linebacker Cam Bright to join UW Huskies as graduate transfer

The Washington Huskies continue to supplement their 2022 football roster through additions from the transfer portal.

Monday morning, they added another proven contributor in graduate transfer Cam Bright, who appeared in 52 games the past four seasons at Pittsburgh, including making 20 starts at linebacker.

Bright announced his transfer to UW on Twitter after visiting campus over the weekend. During his four seasons at Pitt, Bright collected 177 tackles, including 23-1/2 for losses, 9-1/2 sacks, three passes defended, one forced fumble, three recoveries and a defensive touchdown last fall.

In 2021, he finished with 53 tackles, including 5-1/2 for losses and 3-1/2 sacks, and scored Pitt’s final touchdown of the season in the Peach Bowl loss to Michigan State on a 26-yard scoop-and-score.

Bright was considered a three-star recruit by 247Sports.com composite out of Park Crossing High School (Montgomery, Alabama) in the 2017 class and committed to Pitt over offers from Bowling Green, Georgia State and Miami of Ohio.

He joins the Huskies with one season of eligibility remaining after spending five at Pitt and adds to a linebackers group that has lost two contributors in 2021 leading tackler Jackson Sirmon (transferred to California) and M.J. Tafisi (Utah State) since last fall.

Sirmon, who led the Huskies with 91 tackles last season and compiled 147 through four seasons at inside linebacker, departed in December, while Tafisi, who added 39 tackles in his four seasons, left the program in November.

UW is set to return two of its top three tacklers from last fall in junior Edefuan Ulofoshio and sophomore Carson Bruener. Ulofoshio led the Huskies with 51 tackles in six games before an arm injury ended his season, while Bruener emerged as a key contributor in the second half in his second season with the program, finishing with 70 tackles.

Daniel Heimuli and Alphonzo Tuputala also return after logging significant defensive snaps last fall, while the Huskies have added another transfer at the position in Demario King, who transferred in after two seasons at Cerritos College (Los Alamitos, Calif.).

Bright is the sixth player the Huskies have added as a transfer in the past two months, joining King, quarterback Michael Penix Jr. (transferred from Indiana), cornerback Jordan Perryman (UC Davis), wide receiver Junior Alexander (Arizona State) and running back Aaron Dumas (New Mexico).
