Former President Obama's dog, Bo, dies

Former U.S. President Barack Obama and his wife Michelle on Saturday announced on twitter that their family dog Bo died after a battle with cancer.
Obama tweeted, “Today our family lost a true friend and loyal companion. For more than a decade, Bo was a constant, gentle presence in our lives—happy to see us on our good days, our bad days, and everyday in between.”
The former first lady made similar comments on Twitter, adding in a statement, “Please hug the furry members of your family a little closer tonight – and give them a belly rub from us.”
The Portuguese water dog was 12 years old when he died.
Bo was given to the first family in 2009 as a gift from late Massachusetts Senator Edward Kennedy.
A few years later the Obamas got another Portuguese dog – this time a female - named Sunny.
In 2016, Bo and Sunny were the subjects of a thwarted kidnapping plot.
On Saturday, Obama praised the former First Dog’s calm demeanor in the midst of the White House chaos and said, “He was exactly what we needed and more than we ever expected. We will miss him dearly.”
