Former PSU football player sentenced to 23 years for girlfriend’s fatal shooting
PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — A former Portland State University football player has been sentenced to 23 years in prison for the fatal shooting of his girlfriend in 2022, Multnomah County District Attorney Mike Schmidt just announced.
Authorities said 22-year-old Keenan Reece Harpole shot Amara Marluke at the corner of SW College and 6th on Apr. 4, 2022. The incident occurred in front of Mak’s Market and across the street from the Cheerful Tortoise Bar near PSU.

Marluke was 19 years old.
KOIN 6 previously reported that Harpole surrendered himself to deputies with the Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office in Bend, later that day. He was then brought back to Portland and turned over to city police.
Harpole was booked into the Multnomah County Sheriff’s Office for second-degree murder, domestic violence and unlawful use of a weapon.
Over a week later, Harpole was arraigned on both of those charges.

On Apr. 15, 2024, he pleaded guilty and a judge sentenced him on charges of first-degree manslaughter constituting domestic violence and unlawful use of a weapon constituting domestic violence.
The District Attorney’s Office said Harpole will also serve two years post-prison supervision.
He is currently serving his sentence at the Oregon Department of Corrections.
