Mizintsev has reportedly been appointed as the deputy commander of Wagner PMC. He is currently overseeing the training of fresh Russian units before they are sent to fight in Ukraine.

Previously, Russian Defense Ministry confirmed the resignation of Mizintsev, who supervised the siege of Mariupol and ordered the bombing of a maternity ward and a drama theater in the city, which served as a shelter to civilians. The early 2022 operation earned him the nickname "Butcher of Mariupol."
