Former safety Caden Sterns comments on new Texas coaches, leaders, and OU

Former Texas safety Caden Sterns was one of five Longhorns to hear their name called in the 2021 NFL draft. Sterns was selected by the Denver Broncos in the fifth round.
While he’s preparing for his first NFL training camp, Sterns recently sat down with a Bleav Network podcast, The Charity Stripe, and discussed everything from his favorite Disney movie, to how he thinks his alma mater will fare under the new coaching staff.
“Just seeing them and how they are working out, and how they talk about the coaching staff — they love it.” Sterns said. “I’m expecting a lot of players to really break out and show the world, and get Texas back to where it should be.”
When asked about who will be the new leaders to emerge for Texas this season, Sterns spoke extremely highly of his former squad and believes that the veteran presence is still there.
“There is still a lot of vets, Josh Thompson will definitely step up, he was a leader when I was there as well. B.J. Foster is another one.” Sterns said. “Offensive side of the ball, you got a new quarterback so they’ll step up, on the o-line you got (Derek) Kerstetter.”
With all the talent that the Longhorns lost, it gives opportunity for new players to shine and insert themselves as leaders.
Sterns also touched on Oklahoma quarterback Spencer Rattler, who he spoke very highly of. He believes that Rattler has the swagger and is one of the best quarterbacks in the nation. However, Oklahoma is still his rival, and he feels confident that Texas will handle business.
“I’m not too worried, just knowing the dogs that we got on defense, like T-Sweat (T’Vondre Sweat) and Keondre (Coburn) they’re gonna get after that.”
The Longhorns defense had bright moments last season, and the hope around the program is that with a veteran group of defensive backs and players in the front seven stepping up, Texas could be one of the more complete teams in recent memory.
Sterns on the other hand, is hoping to make an impact early on a Denver Broncos team that is looking to make a playoff push while competing in what could be the toughest division in the NFL.
