Former San Angelo Central star pitcher Davis Martin to make Major League Baseball debut

Davis Martin, a 2015 graduate of San Angelo Central High School, is poised to make his Major League Baseball debut Tuesday.

The 25-year-old pitcher has been called up by the Chicago White Sox to start the nightcap of a doubleheader against the Kansas City Royals.

Martin was promoted to the AAA Charlotte Knights earlier this month, where he won both of his starts, posting a 1.50 ERA.

He was particularly impressive in his last start Thursday, when he allowed only three hits in six innings, while throwing 55 of his 82 pitches for strikes.

The 6-foot-2, 200-pound Martin was drafted in the 14th round of the 2018 MLB Draft by the White Sox. He worked his way up to the AA level last year.

Martin is believed to be the third Central graduate to play in the major leagues, joining David Hulse and Trey Lunsford.

Martin led Central to the regional quarterfinals for the first time in program history, and he was also a standout linebacker for the football team.

Martin signed with Texas Tech and earned Freshman All-American honors while helping the Red Raiders reach the World Series.
