Former San Luis Obispo High and Cal Poly star Brooks Lee has been promoted by the Minnesota Twins to the Major League Baseball franchise’s Triple-A team.

Lee, who was drafted No. 8 overall in the 2022 MLB selection, played 87 games for the Twins’ Double-A team, The Wichita Wind Surge, this season. He posted a .292 batting average with 11 home runs and 61 RBI. Lee also smashed 31 doubles to lead the Texas League.

On Thursday, Lee was promoted to the Class AAA St. Paul Saints, putting him just one step away from a big league call-up.

The 22-year-old shortstop was named the organization’s minor league player of the month for July after he hit .365 with five homers and 20 RBI in 20 games while recording the same number of walks as strikeouts (10).

In a recent interview with The Tribune, Lee acknowledged he has thought about a call-up to the major league squad.

“You’re always thinking about it whether you want to say it or not,” Lee said in a July interview. “Usually, the team is not letting you know anything. That’s kind of how it is. And so, you’re always wondering.”

Lee added he’ll “try to continue to play as good as I can and stay on the field, and that’s all that really matters to me.”

“They have a plan for me so whenever that happens, I’ll be stoked for it,” Lee said.
