Former Southern Utah University guard Dre Marin signs pro deal in Germany

Former Southern Utah University guard Dre Marin signed a contract with s. Oliver Würzburg in the Basketball Bundesliga on Monday.

In his five years as a Thunderbird, Marin averaged 9.4 points per game, 3.3 rebounds per game, and 2.4 assists per game.

Marin started 145 of 152 games he appeared in for Southern Utah.

In his senior season, Marin averaged 12.0 points and crossed the 1,000-point plateau, finishing his career with 1,432 points.

As a COVID senior, Marin scored 10.9 points per game on 40% shooting from three, helping guide SUU to the #2 seed in the Big Sky Tournament.

Marin was a knockdown shooter for Todd Simon’s club, connecting on 234 threes at a 38% clip, including a 44% mark in 2021-’22.

The Glendale native scored a career-high 28 points on Eastern Washington last December.

In the inaugural "The Basketball Classic" this past spring, Marin scored a team-high 27 on 7/10 shooting from three to lead Southern Utah to a win over Kent State.

Alongside John Knight III, Tevian Jones, and Maizen Fausett, Marin led the Thunderbirds to a Big Sky regular season championship in 2020-’21.

Marin was an All-Big Sky Honorable Mention following that season.

Würzburg wrapped up its 2022 season with a 14-20 record, finishing 12th in the Bundesliga.

Marin will join fellow Americans Collin Welp (UC Irvine), O’Showen Williams (Appalachian State), Stanley Whittaker (Keiser University), Xeyruis Williams (Akron) in Germany.

Basketball Hall of Famer Dirk Nowitzki played in the Würzburg system from 1994-1998 prior to his NBA career.

Current NBAer Maxi Kleber also rose through the ranks of the Würzburg system from 2011-2014 before joining the NBA in 2017.
