Former Spartan Trendon Watford Declares For NBA Draft

BATON ROUGE, LA — After just one season at LSU, former Mountain Brook High School basketball star Trendon Watford has declared for the NBA Draft. Watford made the announcement via social media Sunday.

"After being committed to LSU and the men's basketball program, I am now announcing my decision to enter the NBA draft," Watford said vis Twitter Sunday.

Watford had an impressive freshman season this past year, averaging 13.6 points and 7.2 rebounds for LSU and being named to the Freshman All-SEC Team.

The draft was originally scheduled for July but will likely be postponed until August due to the coronavirus pandemic. If drafted, Watford would become just the second Mountain Brook High School alumnus to play on a major league team.

Nathan Bland, a 1993 graduate of Mountain Brook, pitched for the Houston Astros in 2003.

Watford has not signed with an agent and would retain his college eligibility if he is not chosen in this year's draft.
