Former state senator chosen to fill Vanderburgh County Council seat

EVANSVILLE — Bob Deig has been selected by a caucus of Vanderburgh County Democrats to fill the empty county council position.

The position was vacated when Mike Goebel was selected by a caucus to fill the Vanderburgh County Commission District 1 seat left open by Ben Shoulders' resignation.

Deig had already filed to run for the at-large council position prior to the caucus.

Not a newcomer to politics, Deig has previously served as a state senator in Indiana District 49 and in Posey County government.

The race for the at-large seats on council is a packed one, though not enough to result in a contested primary.

The Democrats will have Bob Deig, Dustin Stephens and Karese D. Johnson on the ballot. The Republicans have incumbent Jill Hahn, Joe Kiefer II and Ed Bassemier. Voters will choose three from that group of six.
