Former Town Councilor Hank Joyce to receive Braintree's MLK 'Peacemaker Award'

BRAINTREE – Former Town Councilor Henry "Hank" Joyce will receive the town's annual Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Peacemaker Award.

Joyce was one of the original members of the town council, representing District 4 from 2008 to 2014. He is a past member of the town's parks commission and is the chairman of the town's elder affairs advisory board.

Joyce has been a director of the Braintree Babe Ruth youth baseball league and served several terms as its president. He has also been an active member of the Knights of Columbus and the Braintree Rotary Club.

"Hank is a true statesman and he has done so much for our community, both as an elected official and as a community volunteer, that make him most deserving of being this year's recipient," Mayor Charles Kokoros said in announcing the award. "It is my honor to recognize Hank for his continued service to Braintree and to present him with the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Peacemaker Award."

A ceremony in honor of Joyce will be held at 6:30 p.m. Thursday in the Cahill Auditorium at town hall. Refreshments will be served following the ceremony.
