Former Tuscola star Brayden Monday hosts football camp

Jun. 24—Brayden Monday, tight end at Liberty University and former standout Tuscola High School defensive end, will host a football camp on Friday, July 1 at C.E. Weatherby Stadium in Waynesville.

The camp will feature a punt, pass and kick competition, skills and drills, a relay race, a group devotional and snacks.

Monday said he is running the football camp to give back to his community and to help out and inspire younger kids to chance after their dreams and goals.

"I am beyond proud of where I came from," he said. "I'm proud to be a product of Tuscola High School football, where hard-nosed players and a great work ethic are expected."

"I'm so blessed and excited for this opportunity to give back and share with some of these younger kids what I have learned in my time being a Division 1 athlete," Monday said.

The camp is broken up into two sessions:

Session #1: 9 — 10:30 a.m. is for rising 5th and 6th graders only.

Session #2: 11 a.m. — 12:30 p.m. is for rising 7th and 8th graders only.

There are limited spots available per session.

Participants are asked to arrive 15 minutes prior to start time and bring athletic footwear, a water bottle and a good attitude.

The cost is $25 per player (cash or Venmo) and a waiver with parent or guardian signature to be collected at the beginning of each session.

If registered & pre-paid on or before Wednesday, June 29, participants will receive a free t-shirt on day of camp. To pre-register, Venmo $25 to @Brayden-Monday once registered online.

Monday commits to Liberty

On Dec. 2, 2018, Monday signed with Liberty University in Lynchburg, Virginia, a school widely regarded as one of the largest Christian universities in the world.

A three-star prospect according to 247sports.com, Monday chose Liberty over offers from substantial Power 5 schools, including Michigan State, Ohio State, Florida and N.C. State, plus East Carolina, FIU, UNC Charlotte, Georgia State and Tulane.

Monday chose Liberty because of the "Christian atmosphere...the coaches and school as a whole [made it] the best fit for me."

Tuscola captain

During his tenure at Tuscola, Monday was primarily a defensive end, being named 2017 Mountain 7 3A Conference Defensive Player of the year as a junior and earned all-conference honors as a senior in 2018.

Monday was selected as a team captain in his final two seasons.

Prior to his senior year, Monday was invited to participate in the Blue-Grey Combine and the Blue-Grey All-American Bowl. The bowl honors the nation's top seniors.

The list of coaches from the Blue-Grey website reads like a "Who's Who" from NFL's yesteryear: Randall Cunningham, Mike Alstott, George Teague, Troy Brown and Brian Dawkins are just a few of the well-known NFL legends mentioned.

The list of alumni from the game itself is impressive, too. The most noteworthy is perhaps former Texas Tech quarterback Patrick Mahomes, who was selected 10th overall by the Kansas City Chiefs in the 2017 NFL Draft.

As a senior, Monday helped lead the Mountaineers to an 8-5 record and a playoff win in then-head coach J.T. Postell's first season at the helm.

Since then, Monday moved primarily to tight end in 2020 and just completed his redshirt-sophomore season with the Flames, his first at tight end.
