Former U.S. ambassador to Ukraine will speak Feb. 28 at CSU's International Symposium

William Taylor, right, the top U.S. diplomat in Ukraine at the time, testifies before the House Intelligence Committee on Capitol Hill in Washington on Wednesday, Nov. 13, 2019, during the first public impeachment hearing of President Donald Trump's efforts to tie aid for Ukraine into investigations of his political opponents. Taylor is serving as the keynote speaker of Colorado State University's International Symposium Feb. 27-March 1.

A former U.S. ambassador to Ukraine, William Taylor, will be the keynote speaker at Colorado State University’s International Symposium next week.

Taylor served as the U.S. ambassador to Ukraine from 2006-09 and was the charge d’affaires at the U.S. embassy in Kyiv in 2019. He now works for the U.S. Institute for Peace.

He’ll share his insights about the country and thoughts on the current invasion by Russia that began a year ago.

“The outcome of this war is important for the United States and important for the people of Colorado,” Taylor told Source, an online publication produced by CSU’s marketing and communications staff. “I hope that an understanding of the war’s significance will lead to a continuation of the broad support that exists right now for Ukraine on a bipartisan basis across the country.”

Taylor’s talk is scheduled for 4-5 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 28, in Ballroom D at CSU’s Lory Student Center. The keynote speech, and all other events during the three-day symposium, are free and open to the public.

The International Symposium is organized by CSU’s Office of International Programs. It is designed to highlight “the ways CSU students, faculty, staff and partners add global dimensions to their teaching and learning, research and community engagement,” according to Source.

Other events include a plenary session, designed for all symposium participants to attend, on the internationalization of student affairs in higher education and how the campus can work together to promote global citizenship, led by CSU vice presidents Blanche Hughes (student affairs) and Kathleen Fairfax (international affairs) from 9-10 a.m. Wednesday, March 1, in the Longs Peak Room at Lory Student Center. A groundbreaking ceremony of the Peace Corps Tribute Garden to celebrate National Peace Corps Day will be from 3-4 p.m. Wednesday, March 1, in the Lory Student Center Theatre lobby.

A complete list of events is available at international.colostate.edu/symposium.
