Former Uber driver charged with sexual battery of woman he took home from the hospital

A woman said she is disappointed with the progress of a sexual battery case that dates back to an incident that allegedly occurred in 2021.

The victim told Channel 2′s Cobb County Bureau Chief Michele Newell that a former Uber driver inappropriately touched her several times inside her home.

She does not want to be identified out of fear of retaliation.

She said once the driver, Serigne Diop, brought her home from the hospital and helped her inside her home, he inappropriately touched her.

“I thought he was being very kind. You know, I just had foot surgery. I couldn’t hardly walk. I was having trouble getting upstairs with my crutches. I actually fell and he came and just swooped me up and took me into the house,” she said. “I was trying to just get him to leave and he got behind me and started rubbing my shoulders, putting his hands in my shirt. He was putting his hands down my pants. He tried kissing me.”

She said she was finally able to get the man to leave, but realized he stole her phone and accessed her phone’s financial apps.

“He was able to steal a thousand dollars and he attempted several others,” she said.

Diop was charged with sexual battery and is also facing theft and fraud charges.

The woman he allegedly inappropriately touched said she was told Uber fired the man after the alleged incident.

But she feels like the Cobb County District Attorney is moving too slowly.

“It’s very frustrating, I have PTSD now,” she said.

Diop was charged in the case in Jan. 2022 and arraigned later that year but failed to show up.

He is in jail for failure to appear and is expected back in court next month.

According to court documents, Diop told a judge he wasn’t aware of the arraignment hearing because his apartment number wasn’t listed on the document that was sent through the mail, so he was unable to receive a notification.

The Cobb County District attorney said it doesn’t comment on pending cases.

Diop’s attorney, Sadeer Sabbak, Esq., released this statement:

“Mr. Diop has plead not guilty to all the allegations in the indictment. As to any delays by the District Attorney’s Office, that would be a question for the District Attorney.”
