Former UConn women’s basketball player Anna Makurat signs with Polish team AZS Gorzów

After opting to continue her basketball career professionally in Europe, Anna Makurat has signed with AZS AJP Gorzów Wielkopolski, a pro club in her home country of Poland, the club announced Friday.

Makurat appeared in 16 games this season for the Huskies, ultimately battling a stress fracture that kept her out of the majority of the regular season. She averaged 3.7 points and 2.3 assists, while putting up 7.9 points, 3.9 rebounds and 3.3 assists and being named to the AAC All-Freshman team in her first season in Storrs.

Makurat initially entered her name into the transfer portal in March before deciding to play professionally.

Gorzów Wielkopolski is in the same league — Basket Liga Kobiet, Poland’s top women’s basketball league — as the club Makurat spent two seasons with prior to playing with UConn, Arka Gdynia. Gorzów went 1-3 in EuroCup group play this past season.

Former WNBA players who have played for the team include the Connecticut Sun’s Jasmine Thomas, the Chicago Sky’s Kahleah Copper, the Washington Mystics’ Ariel Atkins, current free agent Shatori Walker-Kimbrough and the Dallas Wings’ Megan Gustafson.
