Former Ukrainian Ambassador to Germany Andriy Melnyk to return to Kyiv in mid-October

“On October 15, I should already be in Kyiv to take a new position, probably in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs,” Melnyk said in an interview with German news agency Deutsche Presse-Agentur.

According to Der Spiegel, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba has already offered Melnyk the position of one of his deputies. However, this has to be approved by the Cabinet of Ministers first.
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on July 9 dismissed Andriy Melnyk from the post of Ukraine's ambassador to Germany.

At that time, German tabloid Bild wrote that Melnyk could take a new position at the Foreign Ministry in Kyiv. An employee of the Ukrainian government told Bild that the Foreign Ministry made this offer to President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. He noted that Melnyk was highly respected in Kyiv for his work in Germany.
Bild sources also said they believe that the ambassador's move from Berlin to Kyiv would not be perceived as a demotion.

Melnyk became Ukraine's ambassador to Germany in December 2014 and headed the diplomatic mission for eight years. Ukrainian ambassadors are usually posted for four, or a maximum of six years.
In early August, the diplomat said that he had received several offers of future work in Kyiv after resigning from his diplomatic post in Berlin.

After the outbreak of Russia’s full-scale war against Ukraine, Melnyk sharply criticized the German government and Chancellor Olaf Scholz for delaying the supply of weapons to Ukraine.
