Former Vanderbilt athletics director Malcolm Turner earned $1.6 million in 2020 for just over a month of work, according to university tax records acquired by The Tennessean.

Turner was forced to resign in February 2020 after a little over one year on the job. His dismissal came with allegations of lavish spending and misusing university funds. Turner was paid nearly $2.2 million in 2019.

Because Vanderbilt is a private university, employee salaries are not required to be disclosed via public records requests. However, Vanderbilt is required to file a 990 tax form within 18 months after the calendar year. The 990 form from 2020 was the most recent The Tennessean was able to acquire.
