Former Vanderbilt football quarterback Jordan Rodgers to be honorary captain against Wake Forest

Former Vanderbilt quarterback Jordan Rodgers will serve as an honorary captain during Saturday's game against Wake Forest (11 a.m., SEC Network), the program said in a release.

Rodgers, who works as an analyst on SEC Network, will be in town with the SEC Nation live show and will be part of that broadcast, held on the Commons before kickoff.

Rodgers is among the 100 players Vanderbilt is honoring as its greatest of all time throughout the season. Several of the others were honored at halftime of the Commodores' game against Elon.

Rodgers' two years as starting quarterback in 2011 and 2012 were among Vanderbilt's most successful, with a 6-7 record in 2011 and a 9-4 record in 2012, the first time the Commodores were bowl-eligible in back-to-back years and finishing ranked in the top 25 for the first time since 1948. He makes occasional visits back to campus to visit with football coach Clark Lea and the current players.

“They can see guys that have had success, whether it’s because of the degree they got, because of the opportunity they got or because of their individual skill sets,” Rodgers said in the release. “I think it’s so important for these guys to see that there are those of us out here that want to support you. We did it. Here’s a little bit of our advice, or here’s a road map or here’s just a sounding board.”

The brother of Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers, Jordan also was notable for appearing in the movie "Pitch Perfect 2" and for winning "The Bachelorette" in 2016.
