Former vice president Mike Pence to speak at University of Alabama campus

Mike Pence, the former vice president of the United States, will speak April 11 at the University of Alabama's Student Center. He's scheduled to take questions after his talk.

The event, presented by the Young Americans for Freedom, is free and open to all. Doors will open at 5:30 p.m., and it's recommended to come well in advance. Seating is limited, and first-come, first served. Tickets are encouraged, free at www.eventbrite.com/e/mike-pence-at-the-university-of-alabama-tickets-567461772437. A ticket does not guarantee entry.

Prohibited items include bags, liquids, weapons, signs, stakes, banners, air horns, noise makers, food, or any items that could be used to disrupt the event. According to a post from the event sponsor, the UA branch of Young America's Foundation/Young Americans for Freedom, "Disrupters will be removed from the event and are subject to prosecution of local, state, and federal laws."

On the Eventbrite site, and on posters promoting Pence's appearance, the subhead/banner reads "Saving America from the Woke Left."

Pence served as the 48th vice president of the United States from 2016-2020 during the Donald Trump administration.

In 2013, Pence was elected governor of Indiana after serving in the U.S. House of Representatives for six terms as east/central Indiana's congressman.

The Columbus, Indiana, native earned a degree in history from Hanover College in 1981. Pence earned his law degree from the Indiana University School of Law.

After graduation, Pence practiced law and led the Indiana Policy Review Foundation. He also hosted a syndicated talk radio show and a weekly television public affairs program in Indiana.

The longtime Republican launched his political career in 2000 and was elected to the U.S. House of Representatives at the age of 40.
