Former WFISD superintendent dies

Dr. Leslie "Skip" Carnine, a former Wichita Falls ISD superintendent, died Dec. 19 at the age of 81, according to his obituary.

Carnine served WFISD from 1988 to 1998, according to a WFISD Facebook post.

He worked in public education for over 40 years in Iowa, Missouri, Kansas, Texas and Arkansas, according to his obituary.

Besides in Wichita Falls, Carnine was the superintendent of schools in Texarkana, Arkansas, and Little Rock, Arkansas. After retiring from education, he served as a state representative in the Arkansas Legislature for six years.

He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Linda Glispey Carnine; daughter Wendy and son-in-law, John Presson and their three children Connor, Caroline and William of Wichita Falls; son Thad and daughter-in-law Julie and their three children Kailey, Jenna and Alyssa of Edmond, Oklahoma; and his brother Barry Carnine of Omaha, Nebraska.

Donations may be made in his memory to the Carnine Endowed Scholarship in Education at the University of Arkansas at 210 Administration, 1 University of Arkansas, Fayetteville, AR 72701-9980.

In addition, donations may be made to Warr Acres Nursing Center, 6501 N. Macarthur Blvd., Oklahoma City, OK 73127.
