Former White House lawyer Ty Cobb compared former President Trump to a “mob boss” in a CNN interview Tuesday.

The comparison follows reporting alleging Trump, Cobb’s former boss, wrote to-do lists on the backs of classified documents. This revelation reportedly came from former Trump aide Molly Michael, who told investigators about the to-do lists.

“I hear Trump, you know, really for the first time in terms of the way this evidence is rolled out, you know, speaking in the terms of a mob boss,” Cobb said. “You know, giving a direct order to somebody that he probably should have no reason to believe, you know, would lie for him, but expecting her to do so.”

Michael said Trump wrote tasks and requests for her on the back of notecards, according to ABC News. She would later come to realize these were White House documents featuring “visible classification markings.”

Trump allegedly told his former aide, “You don’t know anything about the boxes,” after hearing last year that the FBI wanted to interview Michael, according to ABC News.

A spokesperson for Trump denied the allegations to ABC.

“You know, Molly, a very highly regarded person, very loyal to the president,” Cobb said. “But, there’s a difference between loyalty and, you know, breaking the law, and that’s not a line she was going to cross.”

Trump was indicted for alleged crimes related to his handling of documents by special counsel Jack Smith in June, and now faces more charges under a superseding indictment filed in July.

Trump’s legal woes have only grown since then, as the former president is now facing charges in Georgia related to alleged efforts to overturn the 2020 election.

“I think this underscores though, what we’ve talked about, which is what Jack Smith says in the indictment, is not the only evidence that he has,” Cobb said. “He’s got layers and layers of credible support for each of the allegations in the indictment.”
