MADISON – Next stop for Maty Wilke is Salt Lake City.

The former University of Wisconsin women’s basketball player announced her commitment to Utah on Tuesday morning. She also considered Marquette, Michigan, Minnesota and Stanford.

Wilke joins a team that has the potential to be one of the nation's best next season.

The Utes finished 27-5 and won the Pac-12 regular-season title this past season. They received a No. 2 seed for the NCAA Tournament and advanced to the Sweet 16 for the first time since 2006.

There wasn’t a senior on the roster. Among the players expected to return for next season are Pac-12 player of the year and All-American Alissa Pili, a 6-foot-2 forward who averaged 20.7 points and 5.6 rebounds per game as a junior. Two other players who received all-Pac-12 distinction are also expected to be back: rising junior guard Gianna Kneepkens, who was a first-team selection, and rising junior forward Jenna Johnson, who received honorable mention.

Wilke, a 5-10 guard, will have three years of eligibility left and will be able to play immediately.

At UW her redshirt freshman season marked a strong return from injury. She missed most of her senior year at Beaver Dam High School and all of her true freshman season due to knee injuries, but led Big Ten freshmen in minutes played this past season (33.9). She ranked third on the the Badgers in scoring (11.8) and averaged 3.9 rebounds and 2.6 assists.
