Former youth pastor arrested for child sex crimes

(KRON) – A former youth pastor was arrested for sexual assault of a minor, according to the San Jose Police Department.

A report of a sexual assault of a minor in 2014 commenced an investigation from the San Jose Police Internet Crimes Against Children and Child Exploitation Detail task forces. The investigation began in Jan. 2024.

A survivor of the sexual abuse has disclosed that a man sexually assaulted her multiple times between 2014 and 2018 when she was a minor.

According to the police investigation, detectives identified the former youth pastor of River Church Community Brett Bymaster as the suspect. Police said Bymaster would volunteer at afterschool programs outside of the church during this time as well.

Detectives arrested suspect Bymaster in Manteca on April 11. Bymaster was booked into the Santa Clara County Jail for sexual assault of a minor.
