With a closure looming, ForSports has a new owner with new plans.

Business partners Jordan Rhody and James Watson are the new owners of ForSports, located at 3950 Pine Grove Ave. in Fort Gratiot. Rhody said he remembers going to the business as a kid, when it was still known as Nabozney’s. He said he and Watson want to bring new life to the business.

“We want to get it back to what it used to be, like its glory days,” Rhody said. “I think us coming in and injecting new life into it will bring it back to where it needs to be.”

ForSports was initially planned to close on March 31. Rhody and Watson and plan to reopen ForSports on April 3.

All aspects of the business, such as its printing and sports attire, will be kept after reopening. Watson said the equipment will be upgraded as well. However, he and Rhody plan to add a new feature to ForSports.

Watson is the owner of Watson Brothers in Port Huron and is one of the sponsors for Rhody’s youth baseball team. They realized that the area does not have a space dedicated to training youth baseball. One of the things they plan to do with ForSports is turn some if it into a training center.

“I believe this will not only be something to help out youth sports in the area, but I think it will help the community overall," Watson said.

The training center is expected to be opened in October in the front portion of ForSports.

While Watson Brothers is the sponsor for the youth baseball team, Watson said the business will have no connection to ForSports.

Scott Forster, the previous owner of ForSports said he is excited about Rhody and Watson taking over the business. He said he thinks their vision for ForSports will work out great.

"We kicked around the idea of a training center a few years ago, but with COVID and our ages we ultimately decided not to do it," Forster said. "So, this seems like the perfect fit."

Additionally, ForSports had five employees that had stayed with the business for its entire 20-year operation. Rhody said all of the longtime employees will remain with the business. He said they all seem excited to stay a part of the business.
