Fort Collins receives first snow of season, mountains pile up double-digit snowfall totals

Fort Collins and much of the state received a cold and snowy slap in the face over the weekend with many locations reporting double-digit snowfall totals and single-digit low temperatures.

Fort Collins was on accident alert during the heaviest snow Saturday evening and night.

The city reported 3.5 inches of snow officially at its weather station on the main Colorado State University campus. The average for October is 4 inches.

A slow warming trend will get the city back into the 60s by Thursday, but Halloween on Tuesday, Oct. 31, will be brisk with a high of 42 degrees and low of 24.
