If you're driving on northbound College Avenue in the downtown area Tuesday morning, you're likely going to see the city's Forestry Division at work.

Here's what to know about the large-scale tree pruning project that will be taking place.

Why is Fort Collins pruning trees downtown, and where?

The city says it plans to remove large, dead tree limbs from 17 trees along northbound College Avenue between Magnolia Street and Olive Street for these reasons:

  • For public safety

  • To help you see traffic signals better

  • Because routine pruning and tree removal are part of keeping trees in the urban forest healthy

Both city forestry crew members and a private contractor will be present "to ensure project safety and efficiency," the city said in a news release announcing the project.

Will traffic be impacted?

Yes. The east lane of northbound College will be closed between Magnolia and Olive while crews work.

When will pruning take place?

The Forestry Division estimates crews will start the project around 5 a.m. and wrap up by 11 a.m. Tuesday, June 13.

What if the weather isn't great?

Ah, Colorado weather. It can be quite the roller coaster. If needed for weather or other unexpected situations, the project date and/or time may change.
