FILE - Georgia U.S. Sen. Jon Ossoff talks to reporters just outside Fort Gordon, near Augusta, Ga., after touring the facility Friday afternoon February 19, 2021. Ossoff recently announced plans for the fort to conduct unit by unit inspections of privatized housing on base.

The privatized on-base housing at Fort Gordon will be inspected starting April 11, according to Sen. Jon Ossoff's office.

The inspections follow an in-depth report from the U.S. Senate Permanent Subcommittee on Investigation about issues at privatized housing at several bases, including Fort Gordon, and years of reporting from local news outlets about the conditions on post.

“After the eight-month investigation that I led focused on housing at Fort Gordon, I demanded that the Army conduct unit-by-unit inspections of every single privatized housing unit across the country, and that they begin with Ft. Gordon,” Ossoff was quoted as saying in a news release. “To see real action happening is a message to military families that their health and safety remains our top priority.”

Ossoff received a commitment from the Army to begin the unit-by-unit inspections at Fort Gordon. He has also joined other senators in calling for more data collection on privatized housing by the Department of Defense.
