Fort Myers Beach reinstalling non-slip beach access mats to replace ones destroyed by Ian

Fort Myers Beach is reinstalling non-slip wheelchair beach access mats, Mobi-Mats, at four of the busiest beach accesses on the north end of Estero Island.

The mats previously in place at the beach accesses were destroyed by Hurricane Ian on Sept. 28, 2022.

What kind of mats are they?

Mobi-Mat Beach Access Mats are 100% recycled polyester rolls that use recycled plastics and are recyclable.

According to the company's website, they are ideal for slopes and beach inclines and remain non-slip during inclement weather.

Where will they be located?

Here are the locations:

  • #35, Avenue A.

  • #34, Avenue C.

  • #33, Alva Drive.

  • #27, Mango Street.

Will there be more?

As beach sand is replaced on the pathways and additional mats can be sourced, mats will be installed at additional beach accesses.
