Fort Myers family devastated in Sunday drunken driving crash leaving two dead
A Fort Myers man charged in the fatal head-on crash that killed a Fort Myers man and a 3-year-old girl Sunday night faces a six-figure bond while friends have identified the family involved.
Pedro Eliseo Alvarez Alvarado, 22, remained in custody Wednesday morning on a $300,000 bond. He's charged with DUI causing death and driving without a license causing death.
Manny, 28, and daughter Ema, 3, Borjes were identified as the dead, according to a GoFundMe created for the family.
His wife Franchesca Borjes, 27, and their other two children, 2-year-old A.J. and a 7-year-old Ava, all of Fort Myers, were taken to a hospital in serious condition.
Authorities said Alvarez Alvarado was driving on Bayshore Road, near Ixora Drive, about 9:35 p.m. Sunday when he traveled over the paved median and hit the Borjes' Hyundai sedan head-on. He then crashed into a Toyota pickup.

By Wednesday morning, the fundraiser had collected more than $14,800 toward its $20,000 goal. The organizer, Kathryn Hansen, said she anticipates a long recovery, financially and emotionally.
The Toyota driver, a 46-year-old North Fort Myers woman and her passenger, a 20-year-old North Fort Myers man, weren't injured, troopers said.
Manny and Ema Borjes are among at least 112 people killed on Lee County crashes this year.
Alvarez Alvarado is next due in court Jan. 22 for his arraignment.
