Fort Myers man, 23, dies after his scooter fails to yield, struck twice

A 23-year-old Fort Myers man died Monday morning after his mini scooter was involved in a crash with a car and a pickup.

The crash happened about 8:10 a.m. along Six Mile Cypress Parkway, near Daniels Parkway, according to a Florida Highway Patrol incident report.

The pedestrian, riding a mini scooter, attempted to cross the southbound lanes of Six Mile Cypress Parkway, disobeying the pedestrian control signal, troopers said.

The car, driven by a 70-year-old Newburyport, Massachusetts, woman, was traveling south on Six Mile Cypress Parkway, crossing the intersection of Daniels Parkway.

A pickup, driven by a 43-year-old Lehigh Acres man, was traveling south on Six Mile Cypress Parkway, crossing the intersection of Daniels Parkway.

Both traveled through the intersection while facing a solid green traffic signal, troopers said.

The pedestrian entered the path of the car, which collided with the scooter.

After the initial crash, the pickup collided with the rider, who suffered critical injuries, was taken to an area hospital where he died.
