Fort Myers man crashes stolen car into police vehicles in chase, deputies say

A Fort Myers man crashed a stolen vehicle into two Collier County Sheriff's Office patrol vehicles Saturday, according to deputies.

Emmanuel Reed, 23, faces multiple felony charges including two counts of aggravated battery against law enforcement, one count of fleeing police with sirens active and grand theft auto. He also faces two misdemeanor charges for a hit and run, according to arrest reports.

A deputy received notification of a possible stolen silver Ford Fusion traveling south on Carson Road near Lake Trafford Road. He patrolled the parking lot of Ashley Apartments at 715 Crestview Drive, Immokalee, because of its proximity to the intersection.

Around 1 a.m., he saw the car back into a parking spot, according to the report. The suspect drove away when the deputy approached the car.

The deputy called for support to establish a perimeter after he lost sight of the car.

At 1:10 a.m., the deputy saw a silver car speed down Carson Road, traveling north. The deputy pulled behind the vehicle, which ran a solid red light, driving recklessly, according to the report.

The deputy activated the sirens, but the suspected continued speeding, eventually losing control of the car and colliding with a wooden fence at 706 Jefferson Ave. W.

The driver moved to the passenger seat and tried to flee on foot, but then returned to the driver seat and reversed back onto Lake Trafford Road, where he intentionally hit a marked patrol car with its lights and sirens active, the report states. He then drove forward and hit another marked patrol car that had its lights and sirens on.

He then became stuck in a roadside ditch on Lake Trafford Road, the report states.

Reed refused to exit the vehicle, so deputies shattered the driver side window and forcefully removed him, according to the report. They placed him in handcuffs.

He then refused to identify himself and was booked as John Doe until deputies verified his identity.

At Naples Jail Center, he was identified as Reed, and deputies found out his license had been suspended and revoked multiple times, and subsequently charged with driving while his license was suspended.

EMS transported Reed to NCH North for minor injuries sustained during the pursuit and crash.

His bond is $28,500.
