Fort Myers woman, four children among eight people hurt in Saturday morning S.R. 31 crash

A head-on crash Saturday between two SUVs on State Road 31 injured eight of nine people.

A Fort Myers woman and a Bradenton man were seriously injured and a LaBelle woman suffered critical injuries in the crash just south of Bermont Road shortly after 9:30 a.m.

Five other people in the two vehicles, including four children ages 6 to 15, suffered minor injuries and one person was not hurt.

The Florida Highway Patrol said the crash happened when the first SUV, driven by a Bradenton woman and traveling south on 31, crossed the centerline and entered the northbound lane of travel. The first SUV collided head-on into the second SUV, which was northbound on 31 and being driven by the LaBelle woman.

Emergency crews had to extract one victim from the wreckage, and two adult patients were airlifted to Gulf Coast Hospital Medical Center.

Another adult patient and the children, passengers all from Bradenton in the first SUV, were taken to Gulf Coast.
