Fort Payne man dies in two-car crash on U.S. Highway 11 in Etowah County

A Fort Payne man was killed Thursday morning in a two-vehicle crash on U.S. Highway 11 in Etowah County, according to the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency’s Highway Patrol Division.

Andy D. McSpadden, 50, died when his 2009 Nissan Rogue struck a 2020 Mercedes GLC300 driven by John W. Harrison, 76, of Kingsport, Tennessee.

McSpadden was pronounced dead at the scene. A passenger in his vehicle, Heath D. McElrath Jr., 21, also of Fort Payne, was injured and taken to Erlanger Hospital in Chattanooga, Tennessee, for treatment.

Harrison and his passenger, Geraldine Harrison, 80, also of Kingsport, were taken to UAB Hospital in Birmingham for treatment of their injuries.

No information on the condition of those hospitalized was available.

The crash happened at U.S. 11 and Walker Road, about 4 miles north of Reece City. Troopers continue to investigate, according to ALEA.
