Fort Smith area high school baseball top 10 rankings for April 25

Here are the top 10 high school baseball teams in the Fort Smith area for the week of April 25.

1. Van Buren (19-4): The Pointers are tied for first with Greenbrier at 9-1 in the 5A West conference standings. Won 7-5 and 9-8 over Vilonia. Last week: No. 1

2. Red Oak (20-7): Wister was shut out for the second time this season when they faced the Eagles. Red Oak’s Denver Hamilton pitched five innings, struck out seven and only allowed two hits to the Wildcats. Last week: No. 3

3. Wister (21-5): The Wildcats came back from a 6-2 deficit, with a seven-run sixth inning to defeat McAlester 9-7 in a bounce-back win after losing to Silo and Red Oak. Landon Donaho and Landon Thornburg had back-to-back doubles during the explosion. Last week: No. 2

4. Southside (15-9): Split two-game set with Har-Ber. Braxton Waller had the go-ahead single in the eighth inning to give the Mavs a victory at the Northwest Arkansas Naturals’ Arvest Ballpark. Last week: No. 4

5. Northside (9-14): Grizzlies move to 3-6 in conference with losses to Little Rock Central and Catholic. It had seven hits over those last two games after averaging 7.24 per game prior. Last week: No. 5

6. Booneville (13-4): Dax Goff leads the offense with a .483 batting average, 1.434 on-base plus slugging and 30 RBIs. The Bearcats are on a seven-game winning streak with a 9-8 win over Paris. Last week: Not ranked.

7. Paris (13-4): Duke Walker leads the Eagles with 21 stolen bases, while also batting .48. Last week: No. 6

8. Sallisaw (18-8): Second behind Ft. Gibson with a 9-3 record in District 4A-8. The Black Diamonds are 0-2 vs. district foe Ft. Gibson. Last week: No. 7

9. Stigler (13-11): The Panthers have scored one run or less in four of the last six games. It only did so twice in 18 previous games and those occurred in games two and three of the season in defeats to Ft. Gibson. Last week: No. 8

10. Spiro (18-11): Have lost six out of its last seven games. The Bulldogs batted .271 during that stretch after batting .371 before that. Last week: No. 10
