Fort Smith mayor gives ‘State of the City’ address

FORT SMITH, Ark. (KNWA/KFTA) — Fort Smith Mayor George McGill gave the annual ‘State of the City’ address on Thursday night.

During the address, McGill highlighted the exponential growth happening across the city. He says steps are being taken to improve amenities ahead of the foreign military sales training program at Ebbing Air National Guard Base.

McGill also encouraged the Central Business Improvement District to submit its plan to beautify and make the downtown Fort Smith area more walkable to the Board of Directors.

“Our mission in Fort Smith is to be a dynamic business, family and military-friendly destination that welcomes people from all over the world. This mission guides us in every decision we make and I’m proud to say that we’re making significant strides toward realizing this vision,” McGill said.

He also highlighted the economic opportunities coming with the Slackwater Harbor project.

McGill also presented the ‘Spirit of Service Award’ to Detective Jason Scarborough of the Fort Smith Police Department for his dedication and commitment to the community.
