Fort Smith under winter weather advisory
A wintry mix of snow and ice is in the forecast for Monday night in Fort Smith, the National Weather Service reports.
The advisory was issued for 3 p.m. to midnight. An inch to 2 inches of snow is possible in the River Valley.
Due to the weather, the Fort Smith Wards 3 and 4 neighborhood meetings were canceled Monday night.
Fort Smith Public Schools canceled all athletic events Monday night.
Slushy road conditions are expected early Tuesday. Temperatures will dip into the mid-30s overnight, and roadways could be icy on elevated surfaces.

On Monday afternoon, Fort Smith street crews were busy treating steep hills, bridges and overpasses, said Matt Meeker, city streets director.
Arkansas Department of Transportation crews pretreated overpasses in Washington County where temperatures are expected to be 32 overnight.
On Monday, rain is expected to start before 4 p.m. in Fort Smith then turn to snow before 9 p.m. The overnight low was expected to be a chilly 35 degrees. Less than an inch of snow is expected. Higher amounts of snow are possible in northwest Arkansas and southeastern Oklahoma in higher elevations.
Cold, dry air is ahead for Wednesday with sunny skies and temperatures in the 40s.

Monday
Rain starting before 4 p.m. Increasing clouds, with a high near 47. East wind 5 to 10 mph. Chance of precipitation is 70%. New precipitation amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch possible.
Monday night
Snow likely, mainly before 9 p.m. Cloudy, then gradually becoming partly cloudy, with a low around 35. Northeast wind around 5 mph becoming calm in the evening. Chance of precipitation is 70%. New snow accumulation of less than a half inch possible.
Tuesday
Partly sunny, with a high near 45. Northwest wind 5 to 10 mph.
Tuesday night
Partly cloudy, with a low around 30. Northwest wind around 5 mph.
Wednesday
Sunny, with a high near 46. Northwest wind 5 to 10 mph, with gusts as high as 25 mph.
