Fort Worth-area basketball roundup: Which schools secured Tuesday night victories?

The Texas high school basketball playoffs are approaching.

Tuesday night provided another exciting slate of Fort Worth-area basketball games. Which teams secured some momentum ahead of the postseason? Here is a roundup of scores, results and things to know.

Girls basketball roundup

Keller Central 44, Keller Timber Creek 37

The Keller Central girls downed Keller Timber Creek to earn the final playoff spot out of District 4-6A and the Chargers’ first playoff berth in 17 years. Malaiyah Foster led Central with 10 points with Valerie Guerrero chipping in eight.

With the win Central (14-14 overall, 7-5 in 4-6A) finishes in a third-place tie with Keller (16-12, 7-5). The Chargers and Indians will decide on Wednesday morning whether to play a seeding game or flip a coin for the third and fourth spots. Timber Creek (16-14, 5-7) could have forced a playoff with Central later this week if the Falcons could have pulled out the win.

Denton Ryan 40, Colleyville Heritage 35

Despite losing a 10-point halftime lead and trailing in the fourth quarter, the Denton Ryan girls basketball team rallied past Colleyville Heritage to secure the District 7-5A championship. Colleyville Heritage (21-10 overall, 11-3 in 7-5A) could have forced a three-way tie for first and a likely seeding tournament later this week, but the Raiders (28-7, 13-1) got a layup from A’Rosha Reed’s with five minutes left in the final period to give Ryan the lead for good.

Argyle (30-5, 12-2) defeated Denton 51-22 to secure second place. Ryan, No. 9 in the Texas Association of Basketball Coaches Class 5A state rankings, led by double digits following a layup by Lauryn Stephens midway through the third quarter, but the Panthers closed out the quarter strong with a 16-5 run.

Journee Hampton, who led Colleyville Heritage with 16 points, got a loose ball and layup to pull the Panthers within six and Suli Davis later finished a steal and transition to make it a two-point game.

Hampton added two more baskets and Heritage led 31-30 entering the fourth quarter. Ryan wraps up the regular season with the program’s first district title since 2016, when the Raiders went to the regional semifinals.

They will open as the top seed and play Burleson in the bi-district round next week. The Panthers went to the regional tournament last season.

Fort Worth Dunabr 75, Young Women’s Leadership Academy 20

Fort Worth Dunbar secured its fourth consecutive district championship, winning its 44th straight district play game. Dunbar is ranked as the No. 5 team in the Star-Telegram’s Class 4A, 3A and private school rankings.

Southlake Carroll 71, Keller Fossil Ridge 46

Southlake Carroll (28-5, 12-0), powered by the Jordan sisters, completed a perfect district play run with a dominant victory in the regular season finale. Milania Jordan led the way with 30 points.

Brewer 61, Azle 18

Brewer (25-5, 8-1), the no. 4 ranked Class 5A team in the Fort Worth-area, secured a dominant 43-point victory over Azle to end the regular season on a strong note.

Benbrook 58, Carter Riverside 17

Benbrook (14-16, 7-4) improved it’s playoff positioning with a lopsided win over Fort Worth Carter Riverside.

Arlington Heights 64, Fort Worth North Side 25

The Arlington Heights (21-8, 14-0) Yellowjackets continued their dominatnt district play run with a lopsided win over Fort Worth North Side. Arlington Height is the No. 5 ranked Class 5A team in the Fort Worth-area.

Arlington Martin 50, Grand Prairie 37

Arlington Martin (21-9, 11-3) won its fourth in a row. The Warriors have the No. 3 playoff spot in District 8-6A and are the No. 5 ranked Class 6A team in the Fort Worth-area rankings.

North Crowley 48, Hurst L.D. Bell 37

Hurst L.D. Bell (29-4, 11-3) lost its third consecutive game. North Crowley (20-10, 10-4) seized the momentum and will head to the postseason on a two game win streak.

The Blue Raiders’ losing streak is happening at a bad time with the playoffs beginning next week. Bell was the Star-Telegram’s No. 1 ranked Class 6A team but has since dropped to the No. 4 ranked squad.

Haltom 50, Arlington Sam Houston 18

Haltom (10-22, 7-7) secured the final playoff spot in District 8-6A with its win over Sam Houston (0-22, 0-10). The Buffaloes’ victory eliminated Arlington Lamar and Grand Prairie from playoff contention.

Mansfield Lake Ridge 49, Mansfield Legacy 41

Mansfield Lake Ridge (18-15, 7-7) secured the final playoff spot in District 11-6A with its win on Tuesday. Mansfield Legacy (13-21, 5-9) was playing to extend its season and couldn’t pull away with the victory.

Aledo 46, Granbury 44

Aledo (17-11, 6-4) further solidified its playoff positioning with a win over Granbury (17-9, 7-3), one of the top teams in District 5-5A. Aledo’s Joaquin Pacheco hit a game winning mid range jump shot with four Granbury defenders closing out on the shot.

Arlington Martin 66, Grand Prairie 57

Arlington Martin (15-16, 6-6) is playing for its playoff life, and the Warriors delivered with a win over Grand Prairie (17-16, 8-4), a team that sits at third place in District 8-6A.

Jeremiah Ellis led the way with 21 points and five 3-pointers. Jayson Mathiesen was another key contributor with 15 points.

Martin will attempt to surpass Arlington Bowie (17-15, 7-5) and has a game against the Volunteers to close the regular season on Tuesday. First, the Warriors will need to take care of business against Arlington Lamar on Friday.

Midlothian 59, Centennial 47

Keylan Jones’ 16 points were not enough to lift Burleson Centennial (12-19, 7-8) past Midlothian. Centennial’s Abram Hicks also had a strong showing with 10 points, seven steals and four assists.

The Spartans are in danger of being eliminated from postseason contention.

Birdville 62, Lake Dallas 57

Birdville (17-11, 6-6), the No. 8 ranked Class 5A team in the Fort Worth-area, bested Lake Dallas (16-12, 6-6) and is now tied for fourth in District 7-5A with the Falcons. Birdville is one step closer to securing a postseason birth and will need to finish the regular season strong.

Ponder 97, S&S Consolidated 27

Ponder (29-6, 12-0) thrashed S&S Consolidated to extend its district play undefeated streak to nine. The Lions are the No. 4 ranked team in the Star-Telegram’s Class 4A, 3A and private school rankings.

Ponder’s Max Hutcherson and Jace Sullivan led the way with 16 points each.

Chisholm Trail 44, Paschal 30

Chisholm Trail (20-6, 9-3) locked up second place in District 3-6A with a win over Paschal.

Southlake Carroll 45, Keller Fossil Ridge 39

Southlake Carroll (20-8, 7-4) defeated Keller Fossil Ridge (15-13, 2-8) to clinch a spot in the playoffs.
