Fort Worth Brewer upends Abilene Cooper for Silver title at Haltom volleyball tournament

HALTOM CITY − The Cooper volleyball team played for the Silver Bracket championship on Saturday at the Haltom tournament, losing to Fort Worth Brewer 25-19, 25-21.

Skyla Stark led Cooper with six kills, and Abigail Pena-Perez had 15 against Brewer. Karrigan Parrott had 10 assists and seven digs. Mattie Tibbets had four kills and three blocks.

The Lady Cougars advanced to the title match with wins over Hillsboro and Fort Worth Benbook.

Pena-Perez had seven kills, while Aliyah Davis and Marissa Chavez had five each in a 25-17, 25-19 win over Hillsboro. Parrott had 12 assists and five digs. Jazlyn Hatcher and Chavez had five digs each.

Tibbetts had 11 kills and two blocks, and Pena-Perez added eight kills in a 22-25, 25-17, 25-17 win over Benbrook. Parrott had 17 assists and seven digs. Chavez had 14 digs and three blocks. Hatcher had eight digs. Stark had six kills and four blocks.

A day earlier, Cooper went 1-2 in pool play. The Lady Coogs beat Fort Worth Trimble Tech 25-13, 25-7, while losing to DeSoto 25-21, 25-20 and Killeen Shoemaker 18-25, 25-23, 25-17.

Cooper (7-9) plays Jim Ned at 6 p.m. Tuesday in a nondistrict match in Tuscola.
