A driver was killed in a single-vehicle crash Friday night in Donley County that ended in the vehicle catching fire.

According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, at about 11:30 p.m. Friday, a 1996 Buick Park Avenue was westbound on US 287, approximately 11 miles west of Clarendon. For unknown reasons, the Buick veered off the roadway and entered the north ditch. The Buick traveled through the ditch and continued north toward the railroad tracks.

The Buick then struck the railroad tracks, vaulted over them, and landed on the north side of the tracks, where it caught fire, according to a news release.

The driver of the Buick, identified as John Albright, 39, of Fort Worth, was pronounced dead at the scene by Donley County Justice of the Peace Pat Hill.

The posted speed limit was 75 mph, and road conditions were dry and clear on paved road.

Albright was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash, which remains under investigation by the Texas Highway Patrol Troopers.
