Most popular books in 2023 checked out of Fort Worth Public Library; 3.15M titles lent

Even as the Central Library in downtown Fort Worth closed in June 2023, the city’s public library system continues to offer book titles to tens of thousands of library cardholders across the city.

More than 1.7 million printed books were checked out at Fort Worth Public Library locations in the past 12 months. Another 1.45 digital titles were lent out, a 17% increase from 2022.

“Some things have remained constant: a commitment to offer resources and activities to inform, educate and entertain Fort Worth residents of all ages,” according to the library website.

Topping the printed books list for adults was 3 Days to Live by James Patterson followed by Spare, a memoir by Prince Harry, Duke of Sussex. Teen readers favored The Assassin Game by Kirsty McKay, while Pete the Cat Saves Up, by Kimberly and James Dean topped the list of titles of children’s favorites.

The Fort Worth library states in its website that unique users for its digital collection in 2023 increased by 13% to 41,846 cardholders, and new users increased by 5%, adding 13,847 newcomers to the system.
