Fortune teller uses cheese to predict future

STORY: Jennifer Billock has spent years practicing and teaching tyromancy, the ancient art of fortune-telling through the observation of cheese.

“I really enjoy it, I love cheese,” said Billock. “I think it's great, because you get your fortune told and then you get to eat it!”

The 40-year-old Chicago resident says she studies the patterns of cheese, poring over them to get a glimpse at what’s ahead for her clients.

The history of tyromancy goes back to around the Middle Ages. Just like any other form of divination, tyromancy assists in divining messages.

Different aspects such as the depth of the cheese, the type of mold, and the scent, can help predict different things.

“Every piece of cheese has something it can tell you about the cheese itself and also about you,” said Billock.
