Foul play not suspected in death of man found in southwest Indian River County

INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — Detectives said they find nothing suspicious in the death of a former auto repair shop owner whose body was reported found on land off 58th Avenue Wednesday.

Paul Asafaylo, 55, was found dead on wooded property off 58th Avenue Southwest and 1st Street Southwest where officials say he had lived for roughly two years, according to an Indian River County Sheriff’s Office spokesperson.

Results of blood and tissue tests from a medical examiner’s evaluation still are needed to determine a cause of death, said spokesperson Keith Carson.

Records show his body was reported shortly after 11:30 a.m. by a man who told deputies he was a friend of Asafaylo and had not seen or heard from him since he dropped him off on the land two days earlier, according to a report.

He told deputies he went back to check on him and found him dead.

Carson said a homeless camp is known to be in that area.

Property records show the land is owned by the Diocese of Palm Beach and is made up of roughly 35 wooded acres extending about a quarter mile south of 1st Street Southwest along the west side of 58th Avenue.

State business records show between 2007 and 2008 Asafaylo owned and operated Paul’s Repair, Inc. at a row of industrial shops just over a mile east off 43rd Avenue.
