Foundation matching up to $5K donations to United Way on Giving Tuesday

COSHOCTON − For the third consecutive year, the United Way of Coshocton and the Coshocton Foundation are joining forces to raise funds for Coshocton through a match on Giving Tuesday, the Tuesday after Thanksgiving. This year, that's Nov. 28.

Giving Tuesday aims to harness the power of social media to create a national movement around the holidays to giving, similar to how Black Friday and Cyber Monday have become days synonymous with holiday shopping.

Up to $5,000 will be matched for donations coming into the United Way of Coshocton through the website, coshoctonunitedway.org, the United Way Venmo account or a donation brought into the office at 402 Main St. on that day only.

Last year, $6,110 turned into more than $11,110 through the generosity of donors and the Coshocton Foundation.

Coinciding with the Thanksgiving holiday, Black Friday and Cyber Monday, Giving Tuesday is intended to inspire people to take a collaborative action and improve their local communities. It is a great way to give back in a better, smarter way to charities and causes they support to help create a better world, said Emma Mitchell, executive director of the United Way of Coshocton County.

“Giving Tuesday reminds us the spirit of the holiday giving season should be about community and not consumerism,” she said. “We are so grateful to the Coshocton Foundation for making the match, because working together we are able to give back so much more to a community that is so important to us all.”
