Four bitten by fox in Rochester, animal euthanized

Oct. 8—A rabid fox was captured and euthanized last week in Rochester, following reports it bit multiple people.

New Hampshire Fish and Game said reports began coming in early Wednesday about an aggressive fox, saying the animal had charged and chased after people and reportedly biting at least three.

Later that same day, three employees at the local post office attempted to evade the fox by running inside, but the animal was able to enter the facility before the automatic doors closed behind them, officials said.

One person was bitten inside the post office before anyone was able to trap the animal.

Fish and Game responded and euthanized the animal, which tested positive for rabies.

None of the people bitten by the fox were seriously hurt, Fish and Game officials said.

Each of the victims is expected to receive rabies vaccinations.ww

According to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, rabies can be spread through bites or scratches from an infected animal and is fatal without the appropriate care after exposure.

Officials recommend pets should be vaccinated against the disease, commonly found in wild animals such as bats, raccoons, skunks and foxes.
