Four dead in El Paso freeway, railway collisions over weekend

A deadly weekend left four people dead in traffic collisions on El Paso’s highways and railways.

The rash of deaths started during the Friday evening commute when a motorcyclist was run over by a semitruck in a chain-reaction crash on Interstate 10 East near Lee Trevino Drive on the East Side, police said.

The crash occurred about 5:15 p.m. when traffic came to a stop on the congested highway, El Paso police said.

A Dodge Charger came to an abrupt stop and was rear-ended by Hyundai Elantra. A BMW R 11 motorcycle then ran into the back of a Nissan Rouge causing the motorcyclist to be thrown into the next lane where he was run over by atractor-trailer.

The motorcyclist, identified as 67-year-old Stephen Hoeller of Horizon City, was transported to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead, police said.

Two killed in fiery freeway crash

Two men died in a fiery high-speed crash early Saturday on I-10 East near Lomaland Drive in the East Side, police said.

About 2:20 a.m., the driver and passenger were in a 2007 Subaru Impreza traveling at an "excessive speed" when the driver lost control and crashed into trees and other objects on the side of the highway causing the car to burst into flames, police said.
