Four face animal cruelty charges after authorities find more than 30 animals in house

Three men and a woman were detained Wednesday afternoon after Corpus Christi police and Animal Care Services removed 36 animals from a home.

Around 2:40 p.m., police were called to the 2800 block of Niagara Street. Upon arrival, officers found 35 dogs and a cat inside.

Joel Skidmore, program manager for Animal Care Services, said the department received an assist call from police who were attempting to repossess the property and discovered the animals.

The animals did not have food or water and were living in poor condition. None of the animals were deceased.

The individuals face charges of animal cruelty. Their identities have not yet been released.

"Right now there's a wide range of animal cruelty concerns that we have," Skidmore said. "There are animals that are living in squalor conditions, in close proximity to their feces and urine, and there's animals that have unaddressed medical conditions, such as hair loss, open wounds, open sores, and all that needs to be addressed."

Because Animal Care Services is housing many animals, Skidmore asked for the community's help.

"If you're a rescue, please come take animals from us," Skidmore said. "If you want to step up as a foster, please sign up to be a foster so we have space to take in these animals who have been cruelly treated."
