Four Helena-West Helena police officers fired, chief says

HELENA-WEST HELENA, Ark. — Four Helena-West Helena police patrolmen were fired Tuesday in an action stemming from an arrest in December, Chief Vincent Bell said.

The officers were not identified and Bell would not say whether there would be further action.

Bell said the firings stem from the arrest of a person named Tyler Orr on Dec. 19, but did not release more details about the case.

Chief Bell also would not discuss body camera footage, saying the investigation remains open with the local prosecuting attorney and the Arkansas State Police is now getting involved.

This takes the Helena-West Helena Police Department down to seven patrol officers. Bell says he is in communication with the Phillips County sheriff to see what assistance the sheriff’s office can provide.

Providing adequate protection is a concern to Helena West-Helena City Councilman Joe St. Columbia as well.

“We have a population of around nine thousand people in this community. It is a great concern,” he said.

Residents of an east Arkansas town have been without water for the past two weeks

The Phillips County jail roster shows Tyler Orr was arrested on charges of theft of property and aggravated assault on a family member. He is booked with a bond of $50,000.
